Hello – I’m Kathryn and I’ve started this blog so that I can write about all my experiences as aVSO volunteer in Namibia over the next twelve months.
I’m not quite sure what to write here as I would imagine most people who are going to read it already know who I am (!) And for those who don’t – you’re obviously looking for something interesting to read, so should I ‘glam it up’ for you? And now you’ll never know if it’s the real me (!)
So I’ll just describe what I’m going to be doing in Namibia instead.
I’ll be based in a small town called Gobabis, near the Western border with Botswana. I have no idea what I’ll be living in, but there are 36 churches in town to pray for better if it turns out bad.
The organisation that VSO has placed me with is the ‘Omaheke San Trust’ (I will put a link in when I figure out how) whose goal is to improve the welfare of the San people – bushmen of the Kalahari – through a number of different projects and education on rights, health & welfare etc.
My job title is ‘Organisational Development Advisor’, though at this stage I have very few pre-conceptions about what this will involve, but I’m sure it’s going to be interesting, exciting & an experience of a lifetime for me.
I’m also sure that, at least at first, it’s going to be quite tough too – so any messages/comments will be most gratefully received!
Happy reading,
Kathryn.
